Nuking The Moon Plan: The Secret Project A119!
From its real life origins, to what would happen if it did happen, and more! Join me as we show you the secrets of Nuking the moon : The Secret Project A119! I want you to think about all the pieces and planets and moons and asteroids, and of course, the sun that is all there. If you really think about it, the solar system is a near perfectly balanced entity, and that why everything has lasted for so long in many respects. Now, if you go and zoom in your picture to the Earth, you'll see a another case of perfect balance. Mainly in that we are one planet that is orbited by one moon. Our moon. The moon has long been an item of interest for humanity, and in truth, for the longest time we dreamt of going to there, which we did in 1969. A moment that will live on in history as a triumph of humanity as a whole. But here's the twist, a decade before that, there was a plan that was a little more...extreme in regards to the moon. Mainly, the United States Air Force had a secret project where they were literally considering...nuking the moon. For real. So what exactly what project A119 outside of the basic, "we're going to blow up the moon"? To answer that, we have to go back to the 1950's, where nothing was what exactly what you think it would be. While there are a lot of frictions between the United States and Russia in our current climate, they paled in comparison to what we refer to as the Cold War. Mainly because back then, Russia was the USSR, a nation run by Communism and while they were originally allies with the United States in World War II, their alliance turned to a rivalry that would engulf the world pretty much. In short, both the US and the USSR were determined to prove that they were the ones who had the best of everything. The best in terms of being a nation (with two VERY different philosophies on economy, politics, power, freedom, etc), the best in terms of weapons (via a stockpile of nukes that they had pointed at each other), and...the best when it came to doing things humanity hadn't done before. This was the catalyst for what would be known as the Space Race. The Space Race was just as it sounds like. It was a "race" both figuratively and literally to get a person into space. At first, it was basic, getting satellites up there, and then getting animals up there. Then people. Finally, the ultimate goal was to get to the moon. Here's the problem. Of those tiers? Russia beat the United States to the first three. They got the first satellite up in space via Sputnik, then 4 weeks later they put a dog up in space. Finally, in 1961, Yuri Gagarin was the first person to be successfully put up in space via Vostok 1. The United States to lose, and by 1959, they were not only losing the race, they were terrified by what the Soviets were proving capable of. How so? Well, when Sputnik went up into space, it orbited the world to prove that it could. Which meant to the US that the Soviets had a device that could spy on any country (a sign of things to come...) and could potentially put anything on it in terms of weaponry. After all, if you can put a dog on a craft, why not a nuke? Ironically, this exactly what Russia was wanting the US to think. They wanted the States to fear them and their technological prowess. But here's where things get weird. And yes, I know that things are ALREADY weird, but trust me, they get weirder. You see, around the time Sputnik 2 was about to launch, a newspaper article ran that stated that the Soviet Union was going to send a Hydrogen Bomb to the moon. Why? To detonate on it and show the world their power. What's more, this was going to happen on the anniversary of the Soviet Revolution. The 40th anniversary to be specific. Now to be clear, the article didn't boldly claim that this would happen conspiracy theory style. Rather, they stated that the rumor came from someone in the American Intelligence Agency. What's more, the article put the fear of God into people by stating that the bomb itself could fail to hit the moon, get caught in its order, and literally be slingshoted back to Earth...with the bomb intact...and thus cause a lot of destruction. Why would this happen? The article claimed that the Soviet guidance system wasn't likely to work "on the first try". So image you are one of the people reading this article. You go and read it, and you see that the Soviets' (which you know are capable of sending things into space) are potentially going to detonate something on the moon, and even broadcast that they WERE going to do it so that people could see it for themselves on the night in question. You would have every right to be very, VERY , afraid, right? I mean, this isn't just a bomb here, this a bomb on the moon! #InsaneCuriosity #ToTheMoon #MoonFacts
