Did dust darken Betelgeuse, and is it dimming again? New results from the Hubble Space Telescope suggest that Betelgeuse ejected a massive cloud of dense dust that obscured the red supergiant star, and caused the Great Dimming of Betelgeuse in 2019 and early 2020. However, there are still other questions about what caused Betelgeuse to dim that remain unanswered. To make matters even more confusing, astronomers observed Betelgeuse this summer using the STEREO solar observatory.
